Issen is the series critical counter. Official social copy: press an attack button just before an enemy attack hits Musashi. There is no on-screen Issen timing cue. Story difficulty widens the window.

Chain Issen (Rensa Issen): official English social copy says pressing an attack button just as an Issen attack lands starts a Chain Issen. Nihei lists it as one of three main Issen categories.

Break Issen (Kuzushi Issen): triggered after depleting an enemy stamina gauge. PlayStation.Blog quotes Nihei on this follow-up; it can destroy boss parts. It exists so players can land an iconic Issen without only frame-perfect counters.

Parry and Deflect sit around the same loop. Deflect helps drain stamina toward Break Issen. Capcom’s action page still leads with the signature Issen technique.

Exact frame windows, chain length caps, and per-boss part counts are not on Capcom’s pages. This site will not invent them.
